Diversity Enrichment
Linda Belt came in and talked Carson’s staff about the three levels for receiving enrichment and training in Diversity. Carson qualifies for the Bronze level which, means that we will receive $600 dollars for a Martin Luther King assembly. Recommendation: We will need Carson volunteers to form a Diversity Planning Committee. This committee would be responsible for developing a three-year diversity training plan which would move Carson forward to the Silver or Gold level. This team would receive input from the staff.
Lauri Cotton suggestion: Carson parent, Scott Isom has put together a website featuring his travels around the world. He is interested providing professional development to teachers and doing school assemblies featuring diverse people, places and cultures. He has a lot of resources that he would like to make available to Carson’s staff and school community. Mr. Isom worked as a “Walking Tour Guide” in many different countries.

We do not presently know what our allocation of funds will be this year. Funds are coming. We want to be proactive about planning professional development that will be meaningful to us as a staff.
On Monday, November 8, 2010 the PACK team will meet and map out the dates that could be used for professional development and discuss what our training could look like. In the mean time, the PACK Team will talk to their grade level team members to receive their input.
Extended Learning Opportunities
There are changes this year in the Extended Learning Opportunity (ELO) requirements. Student interventions must take place two or three times a week. There are also other changes. Arturo will make this information available to the staff.
Unsupervised Students
Karen Howard: We have an issue with students coming too early to school in the morning. Parents are also not showing up to pick their children up on time after school. The office staff cannot be responsible for students who are involved in after school activities or tutoring. Students should not be present on campus before 8:05 am. There is simply no supervision. Students will now be required to present a pass indicating that they have permission to be at school before or after school hours. We will send out a message through school messenger to inform parents. We are considering a consequence for students who continue to come early.
