Agenda
Olweus Training-Arturo
Lorraine Wilson was scheduled to provide an Olweus Training overview for the staff last week on January18th. However, it was cancelled due to inclement weather. Lorraine did send the power point to Arturo. How can we make up this training? We can possibly take some time during this Wednesday’s staff meeting on January 25th at 7:20am. (power point, at least).
We have purchased the notebooks needed for the committee. Lorraine has committed to train the committee, which she suggests should be only about 7 people: administrator, counselor, parent, primary rep, intermediate rep, specialist, resource, LAP. Melissa Ryan has volunteered to be the primary rep. Grade levels and specialists should discuss who might be interested in participating on the committee. Training would be scheduled during a school day so substitutes would be provided for the committee members.
Books are being put into binders by Karen so each classroom teacher will have one. We did purchase a CD/DVD for each grade level.
January 27 Math Training– Please make sure you have signed up on the Pro. Dev. Website before Friday!
Additional Math Support-Andrea
For Professional Development, the staff requested to have additional math support. Janis Heigl will do a workshop for our staff on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 from 12:30-3:30pm.
Janis’s presentation will be focused on:
`Big Content ideas in K-6 and how to develop them
`Math terminology and vocabulary
`How math curriculum ties into and supports MSP preparedness
`Expectations on sticking with the pacing schedule (What do you do when you get behind?)
`Responding to any questions that teachers submit prior to the workshop
Questions (ie. specific questions that will help you get through the year, grade-level specific) in from grade-level teams need to be submitted Wednesday January 25th by PACK representatives.
Diversity: Professional Development-Arturo
Original plan – Lynda Belt would put together a PR day on a Wednesday during an evening. 6 schools are focusing on Native American this year. We have a $2300 request for a grant for each school from the Puyallup Tribe.
New plan:
* Trade comp time on a future PR day – April 11 (you would be released on that Wednesday for the time spent at the professional development on the Thursday evening, yet tbd)
Arturo will find out from Lynda whether or not the Thursday evening is a go, before final plans are made.
E-Readers- Amber
Arturo and Amber put a letter together and Arturo will bring to each team meeting. It is not to go home with every child, but only distribute to those students to whom it applies or has expressed interested in it.
If you need copies of the letters, they can be obtained from Arturo – he has already had Print Shop run them.
Reading Night: Will take place during the evening that Book Fair is open in March (as done in past).
Math Night Update-Michelle will talk to Jessica Bernson (PTA president). How can we work together? We would like to get a committee together. Please talk to Michelle if you are interested in serving on the committee to plan the specifics of this event. Tentative date is March 13th. With Reading Night coming also early in March, question was posed whether or not we should/could move Math Night to the week before Spring Break (Tuesday, March 27 was an option discussed).
Feedback from teams thus far:
*Hill, Nance and Braithwaite from 5th grade have committed to help on the actual Math Night.
*2nd, 3rd, and 4th would like more info.
*Harper and Huson have committed to helping on the actual Math Night.
Questions? Please contact Michelle.
Snow Make-Up Days-Amy Eveskcige, Chief Academic Officer
Schools were closed for three days, January 18-20, due to severe weather and wide-spread power outages. Through prior planning, the following days will now be school days:
· Friday, March 9
· Friday, May 25
· Tuesday, June 19
The elementary end of second trimester is moved to Monday, March 19 (AR cutoff date will be March 9th). Friday, January 27 will remain a non-school day for students. Previously scheduled professional development for staff will go forth as originally planned. It is cost prohibitive at this late date to make changes for this day.
Significant planning goes in to the development of the school calendar. Our calendar includes six make-up days in case school must be closed unexpectedly. This calendar was previously communicated to families and staff. As a result of good planning, we are able to readily implement the contingency plan that was developed.
Outside Gathering Space – Arturo
Rudy Fyles and Arturo will take personal days to drive up to Bellingham to pick up the cedar that is being used for benches. Arturo may take us out on a field trip in the future. Arturo will be requesting $480 from PTA to pay for getting the cedar. Funding has been the challenge.
Copier – Arturo & Andrea
Part of the protocol discussed:
If there are people waiting and you have multiple jobs to complete, please stop and move to the back of the line after you have completed one job. Classroom teachers, please make parent helpers aware of the rule to please step aside if a teacher comes in to make copies.
