October PACK Meeting

OCTOBER PACK MEETING MINUTES

McKinny Vento

-Changes that will affect us at Carson

Students who bring their legal paperwork to come into Carson must be registered and enrolled the same day if they choose

Verified homeless family is not required to have all of their paperwork in and must be allowed to start the same day as well if they choose

Homeless is defined as anyone who for whatever reason enters into a temporary living situation (move out of home into a car or friend's house--in other words if they leave permanent housing into temporary housing qualifies them as homeless)

Professional Development

-Reviewed classes scheduled through district Pro Dev department for this year's LIC Wednesdays (principal directed). Four of the courses are set. The math standards course needs to be fit into our schedule as no dates were available that fit into our current LIC available dates. Math coaches will be contacted to confirm other potential date(s).

Interventions

-Check with teams to find out if there are any members who would like additional training from Vince Pecchia on our new reading interventions

-ELOs have been submitted by most grade levels. A few are requiring adjustments but it is important to get them in ASAP so we can compile and submit (due October 20th)

CSIP

Miles passed out and reviewed the contents of the CSIP plan generated in June 2008. PACK team members were asked to review the plan for further discussion at next month's PACK meeting.

Birthdays / Celebrations

The guidelines established by the June retreat were reviewed to share back to teams.  Consistency among teams and following the recommended holidays chosen at the retreat were reviewed as well as a discussion on establishing some level of consensus on lessons/units that may carry on 3 days or longer. More time will be spent clarifying at team meetings and the upcoming staff meeting. Also, the district will be sending out the latest holiday and celebration guidelines via email.

Lunchroom / Outside

  • No rotating staff at lunchtime--all teachers need to be there unless arranged with admin
  • Any staff member may speak on microphone and ask student to settle down (red card)
  • Staff needs to rotate around the tables and not just sit with students
  • Tap kid on shoulder if not following rules and move the student to the stage steps (inform Arturo or Miles to follow up with student regarding behavior expectations)

Absences & Tardies

  • List is generated by the office
  • Teachers should call home to reinforce on time attendance
  • Administrators bring parents in to conference and set up attendance plan
  • Chronic tardies cause student to forfeit recess by standing against wall (inform duties)
