October 4, 2010 PACK Meeting

Present: Arturo Gonzalez, Andrea Drake, Barb Stroud, Debby Pancake, Jill Burch, Sally Wolslegel, Linda Carter, Kim Moorhead, Laura Cotten, Erlinda Suarez, Sandi Ahlers, Patti Nance, Sarah Simon

1. PACK Schedule: Arturo clarified schedule and history of scheduling PACK meetings. PACK meeting is now 1/2 hr. later then when PACK was first scheduled. If committee is choosing to request timesheets for PACK committee, we need to look at changing the schedule as funds are not available. Buildings in the district do this differently.

Option 1: Return to 2:46-3:16 p.m. meeting time. This is a problem for Kindergarten representative as they have to remain until all students are gone.

Option 2: 3:00-3:30 p.m. using flex time on the day of the meeting. Approved

2. Assembly Times: At the end of the year retreat it was decided that we look at varying the assembly times and recess times.

Assemblies are supposed to be a maximum of 20 minutes. One potential problem is that overload para's are also rececss duty. Another is the 30 min. contractual time for primary teachers during recess.

1:45 - 2:15 Primary Recess
2:15-2:40 Assembly

Primary teachers will check to see how this impacts overload para time.

Revisit next PACK meeting

3. Communication: Sarah Simon shared concerns about parent pick-up expectations and safety.

Suggested that a flyer and/or School Messenger be used to communicate expectations to families.
  • Put on back of classroom newsletters and on websites.
  • Teachers/Staff hand out flyers in parking lot - We need volunteers to do this. There will be a sign-up in the staff room.
  • School Messenger

Safety Week: October 11-15th

4. Dogs on Campus - are we going to enforce this?
  • Agreed to follow the PSD expectations of No Dogs on Campus. The sign at the end of the driveway already states No Dogs so we need to enforce it. Put in classroom newsletters. Teachers will receive an electronic version so that it can be included in classroom newsletter and website.
5. Other safety issues: adults being let in other doors without checking into office.

6. Thursday, October 7th Supplemental Day
  • Tentative Agenda includes: Boundary invasion training (required), Codes of Conduct/Grade Level Norms, Curriculum Mapping for Writing, Changes to Math Curriculum
