Meeting Began: 3:00 pm
Read-a-Thon: Holly Mickel
The PTA is planning to do a fundraiser that will also promote our student’s reading enjoyment and achievement. Kick-off assemblies on Dec. 16th at 8:35 a.m. and 9:35 a.m. presented by Jeff, “Magic of Reading,” who was the same magician who did the anti-bullying assembly. Goal is that Read-a-Thon will replace other fundraisers (cookie dough, gift wrap, etc.). Individual prizes are $10 = popcorn, $20 = $5 gift cert. to Book Fair, $30 = individual ice cream. Top 3 classes school-wide will earn choice of pizza or root beer float party. Teachers are encouraged to help class to set a goal with a class incentive. Duration of the Read-a-Thon is Dec. 16th – Jan. 6th. Read-a-Thon flyer will go home with information soon.
Math Night: Holly Mickel
Math Night is scheduled for January 11 from 5 – 7 p.m. This will be a school-wide event sponsored by the PTA. However, we will need teachers to volunteer to help make this event a success by running the games. Volunteers are there to help explain the games to the players or help parents/students understand the concepts. It will take place in the commons/gym. Volunteer sign up will be in the faculty room. There will be prizes. The PTA’s goal this year is to support Carson in the content areas of reading and mathematics.
Grandparent’s Day: Cristeen Harper
In the month of January, Carson Elementary will have a Grandparent’s Day for each grade level. Grandparent’s Day is a fun event for a lot of our students. However, there are a lot of students whose grandparents will not be able to attend. In an effort to make this day enjoyable for all students, all classes will eat lunch in their classrooms. Grandparents and family members will be able to take their children down to the commons to eat lunch. Students may choose to give their grandparents a tour of the school. Grandparents will be able to go to recess with their grandchildren. Teachers will be responsible for instructing grandparents when their students should be escorted back to class. Grandparent’s Day for each grade level are as follows:
January 12th / 5th Grade
January 18th / 6th Grade
January 19th / AM Kindergarten
January 20th / 3rd Grade
January 21st /1st Grade
January 25th /4th Grade
January 26th / PM Kindergarten
January 28th /2nd Grade
*We will need garbage cans in the hallways and in each portable.
AR Reading Night: Amber& Barb
Possible date being considered in March, near Dr. Seuss’ birthday
Amber will also have mobile computer carts ready for AR testing at PTA Reading Night on Jan. 4th from 6 – 8 p.m. in the gym.
